Beat the rush; apply early!

March 18 — 5 p.m. deadline to apply for draw licenses for Barbary sheep, deer, elk, ibex, javelina, pronghorn and oryx. For more tips regarding the draw process, listen to the latest episode of the New Mexico Wildlife Podcast here or on your favorite podcast platform. 

March 18 — Late 2025-2026 harvest reports for deer, elk, pronghorn and turkey must be submitted before midnight to avoid rejection of all 2026-2027 draw applications; an $8 late fee will apply. 

April 7 — 2025-2026 harvest reports for Barbary sheep, ibex, javelina, oryx and trapper license holders must be submitted before midnight to avoid rejection of all 2026-2027 draw applications.

A Reminder for Youth Hunters

Youth under age 18 must have completed a Hunter Education course prior to applying for the draw. Classes fill up quickly prior to the draw, so don’t delay — sign up for Hunter Education today!

To register for a Hunter Education class, click here and log into the student’s Department customer account. 

The Department also offers online courses, including one in Spanish, for anyone 9 years of age and older. Click here to learn more

Please note that out-of-state Hunter Education numbers may only be used to apply for big-game hunts by youth hunters age 9 or older. 

If you are unable to complete a Hunter Education course before March 18, youth aged 10-17 may participate in the Mentor-Youth Hunter Program by passing an online quiz and receiving a mentor-youth number. A mentor-youth participant may apply for deer, pronghorn and javelina draw hunts. More information about the Mentor-Youth Hunting Program is available on Page 24 in the 2026-2027 Hunting Rules and Information Bookleton the Department’s website, or by calling 505-222-4731.
