On April 19, 2024, hunters, anglers, and conservationists from Centennial State gathered in Denver, Colorado, for Sportsmen’s Day at the Capitol. The event, held in conjunction with Colorado’s Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus, honors our hunting and angling heritage.
Senators and Representatives of the Sportsmen’s Caucus hosted SCI and other organizations on the floor and in the Senate and were recognized with appreciation.

Later, outside the state Capitol building, Safari Club International and many conservation partners attended a wild game cookout and took time to advocate for responsible wildlife management and recognize the important role that hunting and fishing play in the state.
The event was organized by the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation and the Colorado Wildlife Conservation Partnership, of which SCI is a member. Brett Axton, the Colorado Chapter’s president, is proud that his chapter is among the event’s major sponsors.
Even battling snow, hundreds attended the moose burger and elk sausage barbeque. Those present include Colorado’s Senate Sportsmen’s Caucus representative and SCI’s 2023 State Legislator of the Year, Senator Perry Will.
SCI made a significant impact at the event with a large attendee presence. Among the group were several board members from the Colorado Chapter, Denver SCI Sables, and SCI’s Colorado Region Representative Mia Anstine. Additionally, we saw SCI’s Litigation Associate Madie Demaske, who engaged with conservation community members on issues pertinent to SCI, its chapters, and members, including supporting Colorado’s hunting heritage and promoting the concerted joint effort to fight Ballot Initiative 91.
