Big Thing: Donald Trump Visits The Hunters’ Embassy
During President Trump’s visit to Washington, D.C. last week, he stopped by the Hunters’ Embassy to show his support for sportsmen and women across the country and thanked SCI for the work we do to promote and protect the freedom to hunt.
SCI’S Hunters’ Embassy
Last Wednesday, SCI hosted Congressman Tom Tiffay at the Hunters’ Embassy for a fundraising lunch. An original sponsor of H.R. 764, the Trust the Science Act, Congressman Tiffany has been a champion for SCI and for hunters everywhere. SCI is proud to support his continued work in the House of Representatives.
Also, last Thursday, SCI hosted a Lunch and Learn at the Hunters’ Embassy, welcoming over 25 Congressional staffers to our office to learn about issues important to hunters. SCI’s own Chris Tymeson, along with Brian Calabrese of the National Rifle Association and Dan Wrinn of Ducks Unlimited, spoke about the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, the importance of the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act, and the successes of hunter lead conservation programs
Around the States: Colorado, California, Nebraska, Pennsylvania,
Colorado: SCI CEO Laird Hamberlin filed comments on the East Slope Mountain Lion draft plan, emphasizing the necessity of hunting and the use of dogs, among other things. Read the letter here.
California: SCI CEO Laird Hamberlin submitted comments to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife on the Black Bear Management Plan and issued an alert to California members. The letter encourages the use of hunting as the primary tool for managing black bears within the state. Read the letter here.
Michigan: Last week, Eastern States and Local Liaison Bee Frederick attended the Michigan Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus Breakfast in Lansing. The breakfast was well attended by state elected officials, their staff, Michigan DNR staff, and Natural Resource Commissoners, and a short program was presented by the Michigan Hunting Dog Federation. While in Lansing, Frederick also attended the Natural Resources Commission (NRC) meeting where, among other things, DNR staff presented on the Deer Management Initiative.
Nebraska: SCI CEO Laird Hamberlin submitted comments in support of the proposed expansion of mountain lion quotas and hunting areas in Nebraska and issued an action alert to members to also comment. Read the letter here.
Pennsylvania: The Pennsylvania Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus hosted its annual Cigar Reception at Tavern on the Hill in Enola, PA on Tuesday, June 11. The annual event is held in support of Hunters Sharing the Harvest – Pennsylvania’s statewide venison donation organization. Over 125 people attended, representing the Pennsylvania General Assembly, Pennsylvania Game Commission, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, non-government organizations, industry leaders, the agriculture community and other partners who support the HSH mission, like SCI – Lehigh Valley, SCI Blue Mountain Chapter and SCI Pittsburgh. The event is an annual opportunity for Hunters Sharing the Harvest to thank the groups and individuals who collectively represent the interests of hunters across the Commonwealth who give selflessly of their harvest to help feed the hungry in their communities.
