SCI Government Affairs Update
A group in Colorado has been quietly gathering signatures across the state to try and force an introduction of the gray wolf into the state. The heavily funded “Rocky Mountain Wolf Project” claims they have the necessary number of signatures to get Ballot Initiative 107 before the voters of Colorado in 2020.
According to documents obtained by SCI through a Colorado Open Records Act request, the reintroduction effort would cost Colorado Parks and Wildlife around $6 million dollars through the first eight years of implementation, with additional yearly expenses topping over three-quarters of a million dollars annually.
SCI is already coordinating with its Colorado chapters, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and others to alert hunters, ranchers and citizens in the state of the issue. Coloradoans are encouraged to register now for the Hunter Advocacy Action Center to receive actionable text alerts by either clicking here or texting SCI to 73075.
